Let’s talk rubbish! Tell us what you think of our waste services

Published: 16 May 2025

A new waste services survey is now live, giving people the chance to share their experiences and opinions on everything from household waste and recycling collections to street cleaning and waste reduction initiatives.
By taking part, residents can help shape the future of local waste services, highlighting what’s working well and where improvements can be made.
Your opinion really does matter to us – take the survey now by visiting – southandvale.gov.uk/2025WasteSurvey Comments are open until 13 June 2025.

Cllr Sam James-Lawrie, Cabinet Member for Environment at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We’re proud to consistently lead the way in recycling and waste reduction initiatives, but there’s always room to do better. This survey is your opportunity to tell us what’s working and what isn’t—so we can keep improving for the communities we serve.”
Cllr Hayleigh Gascoigne, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Climate Action and Nature Recovery at Vale of White Horse District Council. “Whether it’s your weekly food waste collection or how clean your street looks, we want to hear from you. Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping the services that help keep our towns and villages clean, green and thriving.”
This waste survey focuses on services provided by South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils. It does not cover any questions relating to Household Waste Recycling Centres as these services are owned and managed separately by Oxfordshire County Council.
Notes for editors:
South Oxfordshire is officially the nation’s top recycling area. During 2023/24, 62.9% of all the household waste put out for collection was recycled. This result means South residents have now spent a whole decade in England’s top five!
The Vale, also consistently one of the country’s best recycling areas, scored another very positive result with 60.7% of waste recycled during 2023/24, the fourth highest score nationally.
Waste collections and recycling collections are made fortnightly on alternate weeks in both districts. Food waste is collected separately each week and garden waste fortnightly where residents have subscribed to the service.
The councils’ new joint Waste Resources and Street Cleansing strategy is focused on rethinking waste to encourage and enable people to reduce, reuse, repair, refill and rehome items, instead of throwing them away.
