Christmas can be a difficult time for many and we know that a number of different types of abuse can increase during this period. All forms of abuse are illegal no matter who it is aimed at and no matter what type of abuse – psychological abuse, violence, sexual abuse, financial abuse. Domestic abuse = any incident of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of their gender or sexuality.Those who are being abused are highly likely to be fearful as they now know what is likely to happen to them.
